A lot of people have read some of the works written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Like for example the trilogy about ”the ring of power”. Or the adventures of the hobbit called Bilbo.

These 4 books are probably the most well known of this authors contributions to the world of reading people.

Tolkien lived a great part of his life in Great Britain. But he was born in South Africa.

Frodo & the ring of power

This trilogy consists of 3 books. As a whole they are called ”The lord of the rings”. The 3 books that make up this trilogy are these:

  • The fellowship of the ring
  • The two towers
  • The return of the king

The fellowship of the ring

This is the first book in the trilogy. It describes how Frodo receives The Ring from Bilbo. How the wizard Gandalf shows up. How ”the fellowship of the ring” is formed. And more things.

”The fellowship” consists of the following figures:

  • Hobbits: Frodo, Sam, Merry & Pippin
  • Humans: Aragorn & Boromir
  • Dwarves: Gimli
  • Elves: Legolas
  • Wizards: Gandalf

If you count the members in ”the fellowship” you will find out they are 9. This is the same number as the 9 Black riders. This would make the ”Fellowship of the ring” & the Black riders equal when it comes to their numbers. Maybe it is not a coincidence that there are 9 members in ”The fellowship”. The Black riders are the ones searching for the ring Frodo is carrying.

London is the capital city of Great Britain. Many people know this. Maybe you did to. But perhaps you don’t know the rest of the facts about London that is written ”further down the road” in this text.

London started off by a different name

The city of London was founded by the roman’s. This was during the days of The Roman Empire. Many of the world’s cities are built near some kind of water. This is also the case for London. The roman’s chose a space near the river Thames to build the town upon.

They didn’t call it London. This was a name the city was called later in time. The roman’s called it Londinium.

Streets of London

London is a big town with many streets. This is where you might end up if you become homeless in London. On the streets.

This is the kind of people the old song ”Streets of London” is about. Homeless people living on the streets. It was written by Ralph McTell in 1969.

You have probably heard this song. Some of the text goes like this:

Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London. Show you something to make you change your mind.
